Self Storage Insurance Australia (SSIA)

Self Storage Insurance Australia

Specialist insurance for self storage: for the people who store goods, and for the facilities that store them.

One industry.
Both sides of the roller door.

Storing goods and running a storage facility carry different risks. So we keep them apart: cover for your belongings on one side, business insurance for facility owners on the other.

At SSIA, we believe you're the best judge of what protection your stored items need. Our job is to make that choice clear.

For people storing goods

We arrange Goods in Storage insurance for household goods, personal effects and small business goods kept at an SSIA approved self storage facility. You apply online through the SSIA portal, and the policy is in your name.

For facility owners

We arrange cover from insurers for storage facility owners and operators. It may include property, contents, business interruption and workers' compensation, depending on the insurer, the policy and where you operate. Facilities can also apply to become SSIA approved.

Education first

Insurance is easier to choose when you understand it. A common example: a facility's own insurance is generally there for the facility, not for the goods inside each unit.
Plain English
We explain what cover does and does not do in everyday words, including terms like sum insured and excess.
Backed by the documents
What we say about Goods in Storage insurance traces back to the PDS and TMD, which you can read before you buy.
The right door
Information for people storing goods and for facility owners is kept separate, so you only see what applies to you.

How Goods in Storage insurance is arranged

The Product Disclosure Statement calls this cover SSIA Storage Insurance. Four parties are involved, and each has a different role.

The insurer pays remuneration to the issuer, who may pay a share of it to SSIA. The Product Disclosure Statement explains this.

You
The policyholder. The policy is in your name, as shown in your policy schedule. It does not cover the storage facility.
SSIA
Arranges the cover and sells it online through the SSIA portal. We can answer your questions about it.
The issuer
Issues the policy under an agreement with the insurer. Claims go directly to the issuer's Claims Department, as the PDS explains. You do not need to contact SSIA first.
The insurer
Underwrites the policy. The issuer and the insurer are both named in the PDS and in our licence details below.

Recognised by the Self Storage Association

SSIA is recognised by the Self Storage Association of Australasia (SSAA), the industry association for self storage.
